DC-NET - Digital Cultural heritage NETwork is an ERA-NET (European Research Area Network) project, financed by the European Commission under FP7’s Capacities Programme | Research Infrastructures.
The DC-NET project started on the 1st of December 2009 and will end in December 2011. Ministries of Culture and Research of 8 EU Member States are participating in the project. For Belgium, the project partner is the Federal Science Policy Office (BELSPO) / Scientific and Technical Information Service (STIS).
The project’s aim is to establish a joint public programme of research priorities for the digital cultural heritage sector in the participating countries and to explore how e-infrastructures can contribute to its realisation with existing or newly to be developed services.
e-Infrastructures for Cultural Heritage is the first of three international conferences taking place in the course of the DC-NET project. Besides providing a presentation of the project and its preliminary results, the conference aims to open a debate on the possibilities e-infrastructures offer for services and research in the cultural heritage sector and on how the two communities (e-infrastructure operators and cultural heritage institutions) could better cooperate in the future not forgetting the necessary strong involvement of the research community. This debate will be initiated by general presentations on the operation and landscape of e-infrastructures in the international context and stimulated by presentations on best practices, current research and new (visionary) developments.
The conference aims to reach representatives from the cultural sector, ICT and research, and cultural and science policy.
All presentations will be in English (simultaneous translation into Dutch and French will be available).
To register, please use the registration form on this website. The conference is free of charge, but prior registration is obligatory.
We advise you to make your travel and accommodation arrangements as soon as possible as a lot of conferences are organised in Brussels during the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU. Rooms have been pre-booked in various hotels close to the conference hall. The rooms are blocked until the 27th of September 2010. Please see Accomodations page for more information
